Before I turned my life over to Christ, I was always finding reasons to avoid church. My friends would invite me to church, but I didn’t want to go because I refused to believe that there was a God. I thought the only reason why I existed was to get good grades, get a good job, and hopefully get married. The days that I did go to church, I did not go to seek God, but rather just to socialize with others. During service, instead of listening to the message, I would drift off and think of something else. At times, I would feel empty and wonder what my purpose was in this life. The thought of glorifying God never crossed my mind, and I wondered how could I face God if I were to die today.
I had attended Livingstone Alliance Church when I was younger, but it was not until my sophomore year of high school that I started coming consistently. During that summer, we went to Harvest Crusade as a church. This would be the first time that I would hear a message about Jesus Christ. The speaker, Greg Laurie, talked about how Jesus had died for our sins on the cross. When I heard this, it really touched me. He also explained how if there is a Heaven, there was also Hell. The thought of spending eternity in Hell truly frightened me. When I left Harvest, I truly felt God in my presence and from that point on I fully committed myself to God. It still amazes me that God would die for our sins when we are so unworthy of Him.
After attending Harvest Crusade, I truly felt in touch in God and everywhere I went, I felt His presence. I felt that I had a purpose coming to church and that was to glorify God. I could socialize with others but more importantly praise God. I no longer dozed off during messages instead I was attentive during sermons. I continue to glorify God’s name and tell anyone who wants to hear the Gospel till the day He returns.
